Garden State Greats Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to expanding opportunities for youth sports programs in underserved New Jersey communities, fostering national (and international) competition, and celebrating the history and culture of sports in the Garden State through strategic partnerships and educational initiatives. 501(c)(3) application is pending.
The organization is funded through private and corporate donations, both financial and in-kind, as well as profits from sales of retail merchandise. The organization divides its efforts between a Garden State Greats museum space—which will be physically located at the Trophy Park sports complex in Jackson, New Jersey—and financial assistance to in-need youth sports teams and programs. The dual purpose of these activities is to provide opportunities for amateur sports competition where financial obstacles exist, and to celebrate the unique culture and history of sports in New Jersey. The Garden State Greats museum, scheduled for completion in late 2021, will be open to the public free of charge. It will seek to extend its reach through web content, social media and school programs. Visitors will be able to connect with hundreds of high-achieving athletes born and/or raised in New Jersey through their personal stories.
Garden State Greats will seek out “hand in glove” relationships with existing sports programs in order to provide equipment, arrange coaching clinics and cover transportation costs and entry fees for tournaments in a wide range of sports. The organization will also create educational materials, teacher guides and collateral pieces to promote the history and culture of sports in New Jersey—all free of charge to schools, sports organizations, coaches, parents and young athletes.
